Creativity
At Forest Park School we promote and encourage freedom of expression from all of our pupils. We believe that creativity allows our pupils to express themselves as individuals and allows many to excel away from the need of cognitive and logical thinking. Creativity allows our pupils to be imaginative and playful in a safe, non-judgemental environment.
We feel it is vital to offer our pupils a broad and balanced curriculum and value the wider opportunities the creative arts provides. Research tells us that being creative supports our positive wellbeing and acts as a mood enhancer.
Our core areas of Creativity include:
- Art
- Music
- Play
- Storytelling
- Design Technology
- Drama
- Performance Skills
- Self-Expression
We view the process of creativity as the fundamental element where our pupils learn and place less emphasis on the final product. We encourage experimentation, playfulness and fun when our pupils tackle the different core areas of creativity. Our pupils learn the skills of creativity when experimenting with different media and demonstrate their individuality through the choices they make during the creative process.
Creativity is woven throughout our curriculum and is often the focus of delivery within many of the other curriculum areas. This is achieved through opportunities to play, experiment with pattern and shapes, songs and rhymes, expressive communication, Attention Autism sessions and role play, to name a few.
Each year our children take part in a focused ‘Arts Week’ where they collaborate with their peers to produce multiple pieces of art, focused around a particular topic or theme. Our pupils thrive and take great pleasure in showcasing their creations at the end of the week in the Gallery, that is shared with their families and friends.
