Oak Class
Oak Class are a group of eight pupils in Year 7 to Year 10. There are five boys and three girls in the class. We have a classroom on the Secondary site in a modular building that we share with Sycamore Class.
In school we love art, Attention Bucket sessions, PE and using technology in our learning. We also love going outside on the trampoline and the swings, which helps to support our readiness for learning; you will find us outside whatever the weather!
We spend lots of time working on our communication skills. We learn to communicate with others by using our voice, PECS or Aided Language Boards, as well as to interact socially with our peers by playing board games. We enjoy working on our maths skills in real-life situations, particularly when we get to go to the Oak Class Café! We also practise independence skills, like learning to wash up after cookery lessons and how to cross the road safely when we are out in the community.
We explore different texts through sensory stories and interactive experiences. We learn about classic stories, like The Railway Children, alongside newer stories, like Coming Home by Michael Morpurgo. We also use texts to learn about famous people from history like Amelia Earhart.
We especially love singing and dancing together in Oak Class! Some of our favourite songs include: Yellow Submarine, YMCA and Don’t Worry, Be Happy!
