Cherry Class

Cherry class is a mixed Key Stage 4 and 5 class with pupils from Year 11 to Year 14 on our Secondary site.

We learn through a sensory curriculum and enjoy a variety of learning environments throughout the school day, including our sensory room and our own outdoor space. A focus on developing our communication and independence underpins everything we do, however that may look for us as individuals. We work hard to develop our life skills, to allow us to be as independent as possible and our activities are all linked to our four core areas;

  • Communication & Attention
  • Cognition
  • Personal Development (self-care & Independence)
  • Physical Development

Our individual Key Skills form the basis of our personalised and differentiated learning, ensuring that targeted opportunities are offered, allowing each of us to develop and fulfil our potential.

We start each day with our physiotherapy stretches and waking up our senses. We are working on developing the use of all our senses to enable us to better explore the world around us though sessions such as sensology, sensory cooking, Forest School and sensory stories with engaging props to explore.

Our physiotherapy programmes are an important feature throughout our day and we work really hard on our postural management to allow us the best opportunities to learn. When we get the opportunity, hydrotherapy is also an important (and fun!) activity that we enjoy.
