Oak Class

Oak Class has six pupils ranging in ages from Year 7 to Year 10. We have a classroom on the Secondary site in a modular building that we share with Sycamore Class.

In school we love art, Attention Bucket sessions, and music, particularly body percussion. We also love going outside on the trampoline and the swings, which helps to support our readiness for learning; you will find us outside whatever the weather!

We spend lots of time working on our communication skills. We learn to communicate with others by using our voice, Makaton or Aided Language Boards, as well as to interact socially with our peers. We enjoy working on our maths skills in real-life situations, particularly when we do cooking. We also practise independence skills, like learning to wash up after cookery lessons and how to cross the road safely when we are out in the community.

We explore different texts through sensory stories and interactive experiences. Our work this term is about keeping well, both physically and mentally, so we will be taking part in lots of activities that not only help us look after our bodies with personal and oral hygiene, but also our minds. We have also been reading and writing about ways to keep healthy.

For the first half of this term we have been going swimming at Romsey Rapids and are becoming very water confident. This term we will also be visiting lots of different outdoor spaces, including large climbing structures and the forest. We love spending time in nature slowing down and looking at the animals and the everchanging environment.
