Koala Class

Welcome to Koala Class! We are a mixed class of Reception and Year 1 children with 7 boys and 3 girls.

The children in Koala Class love to learn and we do so in lots of different and exciting ways. Communication runs through everything we do and the children are already working hard on their personalised Key Skills. We are learning to communicate in a variety of different ways from PECS to Communication boards, Makaton and speech. Our communication rich environment enables us to learn in meaningful ways and develop learning for life.

We undertake work in both literacy and mathematics, again with our individual targets being met through our morning Key Skills work. We are learning to count, match, sort and create patterns as well as develop our understanding of one to one correspondence. Some of us complete phonics work and others are leaning to develop our understanding of instructions both visually and verbally. We use our schedules to support our understanding of where our learning will take place and support transitions, something we are already brilliant at!

Afternoons in Koala Class are always lots of fun whilst we complete topic work in the four different areas: Creativity, Personal Development, Physical Development and the World Around Us. Here we explore different ways of creating art, explore music, find out about nature, learn about our friends, learn new rules and get our bodies moving!
