Zebra Class
In Zebra Class we have nine pupils, six boys and three girls, who are in years 4-6. We are a happy, bubbly and busy class who enjoy learning in a practical and hands on way.
We access our learning through a carousel system which incorporates 1:1 topic work – to learn new skills, individualised key skills – to work towards each pupils personalised targets, bay work – to consolidate prior learning, and independent/group ‘explore’ time – a time to meaningfully engage with practical resources related to our literacy and maths topics.
As a class, we are enjoying accessing our phonics lessons in a sensory way where, twice a week, we introduce a new sound by exploring items that engage with our senses, we particularly like it when things get a little bit messy! In addition to this, we split into small groups so our phonics learning can be more personalised.
Once a week we have our creativity sessions where the class splits into two. Half of the group go to the cookery room and the other half stay in the classroom to do art. In cooking we make a variety of items and it is a good opportunity to practice following symbolised recipes and to promote good hygiene and life skills. In art, we create pieces related to our topic whilst developing our motor skills and enjoying sensory exploration.
As it’s the start of a new year, we are getting to know our new friends and are working on playing games together, sharing and turn taking.
